Eaton 9E20KI Tower UPS

The Eaton 9E20KI is a robust online double-conversion uninterruptible power supply (UPS) engineered to deliver continuous, high-quality power to mission-critical loads. With a 20 kVA / 16 kW capacity and online topology, it actively regenerates voltage and frequency to isolate connected equipment from mains disturbances such as surges, sags, and blackouts. Designed as a free-standing tower unit, the 9E20KI is ideal for large server rooms, data centres, industrial systems, and networking applications that demand high availability and reliability.

Electrical Input and Output Performance

The Eaton 9E20KI supports hardwired input and output connections, enabling integration into complex electrical systems without standard receptacles. Input configurations accept single-phase or three-phase mains with a wide voltage tolerance of 176–276 V without derating (expandable to 110–276 V with derating), and an input power factor greater than 0.99. Output delivers 230 V nominal with selectable ranges (220/230/240 V ± 2 %) and a 0.8 power factor, providing a true sine wave suitable for sensitive electronic loads. Voltage distortion under linear load remains below 3 %, ensuring stable power quality.

Battery System and Runtime Capabilities

The 9E20KI includes 40 sealed lead-acid batteries (12 V / 9 Ah) that supply essential runtime during mains interruptions. The battery management system incorporates automatic battery tests and deep discharge protection to enhance reliability and service life. Extended runtime is achievable through support for optional external battery modules (EBMs), allowing users to scale backup duration based on application requirements.

Communications, Monitoring, and Control

For system monitoring and integration, the UPS features an LCD display that shows real-time status, load levels, and diagnostic information. Communication interfaces include a USB port (HID-compliant), an RS-232 serial port, and a mini-terminal block for remote power off signals. One expansion slot allows installation of optional communication cards such as network or relay modules. Software compatibility includes Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager and Intelligent Power Protector suites, facilitating remote visibility and orderly shutdown procedures across virtualized and physical environments.

Mechanical, Environmental, and Compliance Specifications

Physically, the unit measures approximately 815.5 mm (H) × 350 mm (W) × 706 mm (D) and weighs about 159.8 kg, reflecting its high-capacity battery system and industrial design. It operates effectively in ambient temperatures from 0 °C to 40 °C, with relative humidity up to 95 % non-condensing and altitude capability to 3000 m. Noise emissions are under 55 dB at 1 m, suitable for equipment rooms and similar environments.
